Three months ago, Rhaegar and Nyx unexpectedly fell into their hooman's life, and it didn't take long for these two to completely take over. Rhaegar, the red-collared boy, is the attention seeker of the pair. He loves being near his person and getting affection, but there are rules. Please keep your face out of his face, thank you very much. He also prefers cuddling without actually touching, unless there's a blanket separating everyone. We respect a cat who knows his boundaries. His other great love is food. Rhaegar will happily inform his hooman that he is wasting away from starvation despite having eaten approximately .3 seconds earlier. A tale as old as time. Nyx, meanwhile, likes affection on her own terms. She can be wary when something big approaches too quickly, but once she's comfortable, she's a serious snuggler. At night, she'll crawl right under the blankets and press herself against her hooman. Excuse us, that is ridiculously sweet. She's also the adventurous one. Nyx is usually first to investigate somewhere new and figured out the cat door leading to their catio within a single day. No tutorial required. She's quite the little huntress too, always ready to take down any dangerous strings or evil red dots threatening the household. Despite their differences, both cats seem pretty smitten with their person. They usually want to hang out nearby and regularly come looking for attention, but they're independent enough to do their own thing too. Sounds like a pretty great balance to us. Their hooman says these two have changed life for the better and that leaving the house now comes with one problem: wanting to get back home to them. Three months in, we'd say Rhaegar and Nyx have made themselves pretty irreplaceable.

Nobody said that becoming a manager was going to be all fun and giggles… Proving yourself at work and actually being a good employee can lead to a promotion . In our heads, being promoted is the end goal in the corporate world: you finally reach the position where you get to manage people, maybe your own office, and then, and there, you can relax. Now, many of the managers that I've met love their job and dealing with people. If you think about it, they have to be on top of their game all day just to keep things going and on track. However, there're a few cases in which becoming a boss doesn't really line up with some people's preferences. This IT employee was offered a management position, and he took it with no hesitation. He used to be a Solutions Architect and actually improved the workflow at the company a lot by fixing some mistakes, so he became very valuable to the team. On paper, the position looked great: better salary and a huge opportunity to grow his career. But the downside is that he realized that he hates the part that comes with having people in charge. And yes, this may be the hardest, but for others it is the most rewarding. The employee only has to manage two people, but they have "big egos," so every day there's a different conflict that needs to be addressed, and he finds this to be totally tiring. They have a lot of arguments with different developers and other coworkers, so he's always having to intervene and fix these problems in order to proceed with projects. Secretly, he confesses that if he were offered his old position back, he'd take it, no doubt. But we know that going backwards in your career is not possible and not well seen. Some cat adoptions come from such unlikely places. I have to admit, I have a soft spot for black cats . It's not just their special history because of the ties to the fear of witches, and it's not the fact that they're most likely the last ones to stay at a shelter because of said history. It's because I have a black cat myself. She's absolutely gorgeous - her fur is short but so soft, she has three white spots on her belly, and she has striking green eyes. She's 7 years old now, and I've had her since she was a month old. She's literally my first child. I love my Cassie to bits. That's why when I hear a story about a black kitten being adopted, my heart melts instantly. Like, even faster than when I hear about any cat being adopted. Moreover, when a black cat is found in a surprising, unlikely place, it always reminds me of my cat. She was found by my classmate (when I was a student) near her student dorms. She was part of a stray litter, and her cat mama rejected her. I was looking to adopt a cat at the time, but never imagined I'd find my soul cat hidden in my classmate's apartment, since there was a strict no-pet policy in the dorms . So when I heard about Bowkie and his story, I immediately developed an urge to share it with someone. People say that having black cats is bad luck… Well, I say that having no cat is bad luck Black cats are some of the most elegant kitties out there ; they go with everything! Sadly, they have really bad press. People used to think that black cats were companions to evil witches, and that's why they were so afraid of them. Of course, those witches they were so afraid of usually were healers, midwives, or maybe just a woman who dared to think for herself. Yeah, if those were the same people who disliked black cats, we know better now than to listen to any of their craziness. Besides, who wouldn't want to have a little panther at home all to ourselves? We can't have big felines as pets, so we have to keep their house counterparts instead. I've always wanted to have a black cat, but I never came across one organically. Almost all my cats have been rescues or given to me by some friend whose cat had a new litter, and for some reason most of them have been greyish cats. Don't ask me why; I have no idea. My brother just started calling them 'generic cats,' which sounds kind of mean, but it makes total sense when you get to my neighborhood and realize that half of the cats you come across are grey. Mine is a tuxedo cat, the first one I've ever had, and she has some of the cutest black spots all over her. It's the closest I've been so far to owning a black cat, but no one says I can't get her a brother or sister sometime soon. Black kittens are as fluffy and purrfect as any other cat, so if you have the chance, get to your local shelter and ask about one. Are we policing what people do with their free time now? Should extremely tired moms make even their free time productive? I'm going to preface this piece by saying I don't agree with either the husband or the commentators in this post . I thought my point of view would be the most obvious, but apparently, it isn't. I can understand why exhausted moms feel so lonely these days. Modern life not only isolates them, and all of us, for that matter- but it also punishes them for looking for a somewhat escapist way to spend their (very little) free time. The usual problem is that much of the housework moms do is invisible . Only their kids know it. A normal job is public; it's backed by a contract, has a schedule, a workweek, and most importantly, it's paid accordingly! A mom's job is viewed only as the natural thing for her to do. This sort of story always amazes me because fathers know very well how tiring it is to care for kids all day. This issue about how people use their free time goes deeper than this, though. People not only judge mothers for how they use it. In my opinion, if we're not finding ways to let go of the mind and truly relax, free time is pointless. Of course, we should find places to relate socially and not be in our heads or with screens all the time, but come on, are we going to be that hypocritical and judge a mother of two toddlers for escaping to TikTok sometime? Maybe I'm exaggerating , but the husband's reaction to what his wife is commenting on is a little bit tendentious, and frankly, it's openly dismissive. If I were her, I would take it very seriously. It's very easy to come home when kids are tired and pretend you are doing all the work.

Some people need clearer boundaries to understand rejection It's ok; not all of us understand things so quickly . Some of us need very clear words and actions to get the message. Of course, I'm being sarcastic here; many people desperately need some very basic social skills, and it's unbelievable that at a certain age we still have to face this type of encounter. We've all been there at some point; we probably didn't behave like that, but it's normal to like someone and interpret their ambiguity as them liking us back. That shouldn't mean we're completely certain about the other person's feelings. We should always keep a safe margin of doubt, at least until there is explicit confirmation. Until then, our advances should be subtle, and we should always wait for a voluntary response from the other. But what happens when somebody never understood this very basic rule of human behaviour? Is it our job to teach them? I frankly think we don't have to; instead, we should protect ourselves, and every time we see someone like this, activate the toughest boundaries protocol ever. When implementing something like this, it's important to remember we're not doing it to teach the other person anything; we're doing it for ourselves and ourselves only. We know rejection stings, but those who were rejected should face the truth : our empathy shouldn't exceed our self-love. We should always protect ourselves first, even if that means being unkind, because (clearly) our kindness is misinterpreted as openness to being close to someone we don't want to be close to. Some days I just want to be a couch potato and pet my cat. It's hard being a cat pawrent, because it means that whenever you're out of the house, you have to leave your cat there. Don't get me wrong, all of our cats are completely fine. But they just live the introvert dream - they stay at home and are very chill about it. And I want to do exactly the same. And if you're here, reading these very lines I'm writing, you're most likely sharing that sentiment. That's a common thread between most people who raise a cat child - they just want to stay at home with their cats. I sometimes envy the people who managed to leash-train their cats to walk literally everywhere with them. I'd be absolutely thrilled to have my cat with me every day at the office. But she doesn't, because she'll be terrified of the commute. And the office, honestly. She's the embodiment of an introvert, and honestly… same. Earlier this week, when I was working from home, my cat woke me up at 8:00 am sharp, just to sit on my belly and purr. I stayed in bed for an extra half an hour just to enjoy that meowgical moment. But if it were a weekend day, I'd surely stay there for more time. So, really, the weekend is the purrfect time to just cuddle your cat and enjoy every second of it. But guess what? If you want people to work through the holidays, you have to give them the right motivation for it. Everybody needs a break from their job sometimes, and this is never more important than when a big holiday comes around. Employed or not, most believe this is a time to relax a little and enjoy spending some time with their loved ones. It is hard for any work project to compete with that. Nonetheless, some roles have to be performed every day of the year, no matter what. Some companies also simply prefer to be open year-round, and that is something that employees have to accept. This isn't always easy, but more often than not, employers are willing to understand that. They will give some financial incentive for working when almost everybody else with a job is on vacation . Money will always be the best motivator for the majority of employees, so it is usually fairly effective in ensuring that at least some people will be working the holidays. Take that away, though, and it will be a lot more doubtful whether enough workers will be willing to commit. Why give up that precious time just to be at work like normal?

Many important life events are just coincidences that happen because you were in the right place at the right time I often think about it; maybe your mom and dad met at a concert that one of them wasn't going to , and their friends made them go. Maybe you stop a random girl in the street to ask for the time, and she ends up being the love of your life. I mean, what are the odds? But it happens. If you think about it hard enough, everything that happens is a string of really weird coincidences, so it wouldn't be weird if, on any random day, something that completely changes the course of your life happens by chance. We don't need to attribute it to fate; it's not necessary to think it was preestablished. It could be that a lot of minor things piled up to cause major things, and coincidences are only a reflection of that . What we can do to stimulate fate or life, whatever you call it, to put us in experiences is simply to go out and look for them. It doesn't matter how big or small they are, because according to this post's commentators, a lot of random and small things took them to surprising destinations. So I would just say, get out there, meet people, be out and about, and good things are going to happen to you. I have always believed that cats would be terrible at organized sports, mostly because they refuse to follow the rules and hate being told where to be. There are many other reasons, but those are the two biggest ones. Are people crazy, or is it just normal customer service? When you have worked in customer service , you know that people are crazy, entitled , mean, and disgusting. Some act so horribly that you seriously doubt if that is even normal. You start thinking that maybe some kind of crazy new disease has been spread around to customers and that's why they are all behaving so entitled. But soon you realize that it is not like that. People are just like that. Entitled, mean. They will act in the most awful ways, and you will just have to deal with it, because that is your job, unfortunately. When you have been working for a while, you grow a thicker skin that is able to put up with almost anything. They could be spitting fire at you, and you wouldn't feel anything, and not a single scratch would be left on your skin. You become a witch that can tolerate everything, or almost anything. But one day, out of nowhere, some crazy people are going to get you out of your seat. They will start to behave so weirdly that you will have to stop for a second and check if the world has changed or people just got dumber over time. Whatever it is, it's actually so weird that you will feel uneasy. But there will not be much to do either. Just have to take it. Like in this story , when this employee saw a bunch of people acting insane. It was just a normal day being a front desk employee. But it was so weird that she actually had to stop for a moment and think if anything else was happening. But that's just how working in customer service is. Sometimes a nightmare, sometimes a magic, insane world where everything seems to be upside down like Alice in Wonderland, and sometimes, rarely, a normal day where everyone acts nice and respects the people who are working to make their life easier. The season of black cats, strange noises, and suspiciously glowing eyes has arrived… During this specific time of year, two types of personalities seem to appear. On one side, we have the ones who love fall for the cozy, warmer vibes, and on the other, we have the Halloween fanatics who start getting ready for their favourite night of the year since September 1st. Guess who joins the second party? Black cats. We are happy to report that, with time, the negative reputation this specific cat had is fading, but as spooky season gets closer, people automatically remember them and somehow start to love them even more. I've always been a lover of black cats, particularly because I never understood why people thought they brought bad luck… I have multiple friends who own black kitties, and they are adorable and even more needy than other colours or breeds I've met. I'll say, though, that I'm happy that they get to be treated with extra love and care during spooky season, since they deserve it more than others. What would you do if your job did this? You don't realize how much time you have until you no longer have it . I am grateful every day that my workday doesn't start until 10 AM, because it gives me so much more flexibility in the morning and in the evening. I can stay up late on work nights, and I can wake up early for doctor's appointments if I need to. I don't always use my extra time well, as shown by mornings I've spent lying in bed for 2 hours watching TikToks after waking up at 7 AM. I probably would get a lot more done around the house and read a lot more if I didn't waste my extra time with endless scrolling. At the end of the day, my free time is mine to waste. If I want to waste it by scrolling, that's my prerogative! If I had to work from 10 AM to 10 PM, I would feel a lot differently about how I used my time outside of work. I would have to use every waking hour for something essential, like cooking, washing, and cleaning. I wouldn't have any time for leisure during the week, and I'd have to adjust my schedule accordingly. Losing two hours of free time can drastically change your daily schedule. The employee in this story was miffed when he found out his boss was adding two extra hours to his workday and more work on top of that. He doesn't want to act like an entitled young person who doesn't want to work, but he's understandably alarmed by new expectations thrust on him without more pay or even a conversation about whether he could handle it. His boss just expected him to go along with it, and he's probably not going to do that. He has other options.

Kittens can be very purrsuasive. When you live in rural farmland , anything is possible. You could suddenly come across a deer one day who wants to say hi, you can find a cat sleeping on your car one morning. You could go for a walk to encounter all sorts of critters and creatures, and eventually you have to adjust to them the way a city dweller has to adjust to homeless people, city trash, traffic, or constant noise. In the story below , a couple's coworker finds kittens in their barn. He's looking to rehome some of them and they live near a lot of farm land. They have mice that come into the house and even into their cars. The girl in the relationship has always wanted a cat since her family always had cats, but her boyfriend is allergic to them. They decide to take two but just not let them in the house, and that's when the internet comes in with bulldozing advice: take medicine. There are countless anecdotes below of people saying that themselves or someone they know is on medication for allergies, but it's just one pill per day. A story as old as time… a man who did not want a cat falling deeply in love with the new cat in the house. We think that this is a genre that can officially be classified as a classic on ICHC. Someone who didn't want a cat falling deeply in love with the new kitten in the house and believing wholeheartedly that said kitten is the best kitten. Of course, we knew - we, meaning cat people - the meowgical powers that cats have. And they do. There is a pull when it comes to cats that is simply impawssible to ignore. It's why people like us, who have embraced being cat ladies, cannot help but stop to pet literally every single cat that we see. My husband has started calling these moments "cat-related delays". Every time it happens when we are on the way somewhere and might be late due to the cat delay, he sends an image of me petting the stray cat to the people we're going to meet. In my personal opinion, it is a valid reason to be late to places. And most of our friends have come to expect it. It's because of that meowgical pull. Irresistible. I don't know what would happen if I didn't stop to pet every stray cat that I saw, and quite frankly, I see no reason to find out. Of course, I am a self-aware cat lady. I not only have accepted it, I am proud of it. Some people, Hoofarted91 on Reddit , take a while to accept their true cat lady identity. These " people who don't want cats " live under a shadow of delusion. They truly believe that they don't want cats. In fact, this man begged his girlfriend not to adopt a cat. She was a cat lady, though, so it only worked for so long. Finally, she was able to convince him to come to a shelter with her. They chose a cat, and then, this man made the mistake of leaving his lady alone in there. The cat she came back with was not the cat that they chose but rather the saddest-looking cat in the shelter. It took less than a day for this man to fall victim to this cat's meowgic. Less than a day for him to say something like this: "I was willing to do anything to make this cat feel loved". And that is exactly what happens every single time to every person who claims they don't want a cat. They just need to meet the right one. And by the "right one", we mean literally any cat that they are forced to be with for more than five minutes. So, yes, we think that we can officially classify this genre of story as a classic on ICHC. Because it always goes in the exact same way. And we love it each and every time.

If your commute was double what it normally is, would you still do it? Commuting is not a fun part of our day to day lives . It can feel like it takes the joy out our days, even when it goes fast. You're not being compensated for the time spent, so you feel like you want it to be as quick as possible. When it takes any longer than it usually does, your stress levels start to rise. You don't want to spend any more time on it than you have to. And when your boss does something about it, this can be a huge issue. You like to work with reasonable people, and when people aren't reasonable you start to get a little anxious. While it's understandable to want to find the right candidate with the right experience and the right fit, you have to imagine that there is a point that is reached where things are just entirely overcooked. A fateful and romantic story such as this one we have yet to come across, well other than this story. It tells the tail of two star crossed lovers who find each other by moonlight on one fateful night when one of them was out for a midnight hike. They fit together like two pieces of a puzzle, completing and caring for each other in purrfect harmony. So you might be asking yourself how did the cat get to be in the middle of woodlands in the middle of the night and you would be very right to ask such a question. The truth is that this kitten is a tortie , and a vocal one at that. Their breed is known for being a handful both vocally and physically and in a likelihood the kitten's family could not handle their hectic life with it and decided the woods was a purrfect place to part ways. And in a weird certain sense they were not wrong, but mainly lucky. Lucky because the hooman who saved this kitten was a vet . The purrfect person to care for the tiny feline and one of the few who knew how to help it get over its separation from its mother. You see according to the vet it happened too early, and when that happens animals can end up with severe behavioral issues if not health issues too. So it is incredible that the Cat Distribution System put such a vulnerable soul in the hands of a pawfessional.

Nothing says "team bonding" like giving up a whole Saturday for a mandatory unpaid fun… For a manager , I understand that team bonding and having everyone working together + having good relationships is a dream goal. What better way to succeed in your position than having employees that like each other? It's okay sometimes to create activities that are going to force them to talk and get to know each other… but that doesn't mean you need to take away one of their weekend days to do this. In this case, an employee found herself in a very complicated spot. Since she's tight on money, she has two jobs. During the week, she works full-time in customer support, and during the weekends she helps at a local café. Both managers are aware of the other roles, so they do their best not to schedule her if she has the other commitment going on. Well, it seems that the manager from the corporate job decided that, to improve "team cohesion", she organized a 'mandatory fun day' on a Saturday, and every employee is forced to attend. As you can tell, our employee cannot make it, but she tried to reschedule her shift at the café, because it was going to be easier to work double another day than to skip the work event. Her boss told her that it was impossible… so now she doesn't know what to do. Her corporate manager was not helpful either: she said this is a mandatory one-time thing, and if she doesn't show up, her absence will be written down in her file and that it absolutely shows a lack of commitment. And we all know that this can have major consequences in the future… Her frustration is clearly noticeable, since companies sometimes force fun as a benefit, when in reality they're making life more complicated for some of their employees. For this one, is having her look bad in both jobs, but what about the people who have kids and need to sacrifice a whole day to do extra work stuff?

Put one cat in a post and suddenly the comments fill up with people saying "mine does that too," like we've all been summoned by a tiny furry Bat-Signal And it makes sense. Cat parenting is an arrangement between you and a baby that gives affection limited-time offers. A cub who can sit on your chest for four hours, then recoil from your hand like you just invaded at Genghis Khan levels. So it's only normal we need somebody else to confirm this is normal. Somebody to tell us that yes, their cat also screams at closed doors, demands it be opened, then walks away without entering the room. This is why we gather. But It's nonetheless incredible. Somebody mentions their cat did something strange and 500 people show up to say theirs does it too, only in tabby.

Wake up fam, a new cat just dropped! No, seriously, wake up! It's not every day that a new cat species is discovered. For the first time in a century, scientists have formally identified an entirely new living cat species. And before you start imagining some enormous jungle predator with teeth the size of your forearm, I should probably mention that this purrticular feline weighs about 3 lbs. Yes. Only 3 lbs. A literal pocket-sized leopard. Meet the tilcayo, or Leopardus tilcayo , a tiny spotted wild cat living in Bolivia's misty Yungas forests. With its little rounded ears, meowrvelous whiskers, and beautiful leopard-like markings , it looks like someone took a wild jungle cat and accidentally shrank it in the washing machine. But how did they discover this smol predator only now? Don't worry, I'm going to tell you! A local man reportedly found one of these kittens near a forest road and brought it home, believing it was a regular domestic cat. Eventually, the little wild cat ended up at a wildlife sanctuary, where biologist Paola Nogales-Ascarrunz noticed something unusual about its appearance. After years of research, genetic testing confirmed that this was an entirely distinct species. Imagine adopting a kitten and accidentally helping scientists rewrite the entire feline family tree. Turns out that the world still has many secrets we haven't unlocked yet. And apparently, some of them have whiskers.
